Raw Salts

Raw Salts are fertilizer components, and in combining them you can tailor your own fertilizers, adjusted to your water, and create concentrates for a fraction of the cost of store-bought nutrients.

Every good fertilizer starts with good, clean water. It's fine if you're using tap water, just get it regularly tested for its composition. From there, you'll be able to build a better fertilizer building upon and utilizing the components already in your water.
There are many places to get your water tested, your local municipality might publish them yearly on their website, or your local university's agriculture extension. If options those are unavailable to you, we suggest Custom Hydro Nutrients for their quick turn around.

Crash Course

Here's a different take on Salt Smarts and how it works. A simple walk-through and some highlights on the concepts of Raw Salt Fertigation...

  • Most store bought liquid fertilizers are made of the same basic components such as Calcium Nitrate (CaNO3) and Magnesium Sulfate (MgSO4). Most of the cost is from the shipping of the purified water.
  • These same basic components (Calcium Nitrate, etc) can be obtained for pennies on the dollar in their dry form and can be used to create the same and other custom fertilizer solutions.
  • As an example, for every gram of Calcium Nitrate diluted into pure water you will get NH4 at 1.1%, NO3 at 14.4%, and Ca at 19%, which equates to 2.904 PPM of Ammoniacal Nitrogen (NH4), 38.016 PPM of Nitrate Nitrogen (NO3), and 50.16 PPM of Calcium (Ca).
